What Are the Latest Happenings, Sister?!
5th Edition
More Books Find Their Way to Good Homes
Thanks much to all of you who have bought “Goal Sisters”! It was a major labor of love to take our process and shape it into a book. Nothing makes us happier than to receive your responses that recognize those efforts and the end product:
“I am so very proud of you and your accomplishment!”
“I have your book – how way cool! I’m about half way through the book now – I really love the message and I especially love all the stories.”
“You both are an inspiration.”
Yep, your emails, cards, and phone calls mean a lot to us. Not only do they keep us energized as we promote the book, but they also show us time and again how fortunate we are to have you as friends, family members, colleagues, and Goal Sisters. We’re also impressed with all the people in your support network whom we've met at our various events. Thanks for your ongoing enthusiasm, and for spreading the word about the book.

The Postcards Have Arrived
Many of you on our personal mailing lists have received your New World Library postcards. We hope you take advantage of the discount and buy armloads of books so that our publisher has to print more! If you haven’t purchased a Mother’s Day gift for your mom or special mom figure in your life, you might consider buying the book for her and her Goal Sister! It would also make a fantastic gift for someone who’s graduating from school, someone who’s going through a different life transition (children leaving home, retirement), or someone who’s ready to make changes once and for all in a situation that has previously stumped her. “Goal Sisters” can be the gift that keeps on giving!

Don’t Just Take Our Word For It
Check out our online reviews on barnesandnoble.com and Amazon.com. Thanks much to Lucy, Karen, Meredith, and others for your terrific reviews! After you’ve had a chance to read the book, we encourage you to write your own review on either site, but especially Amazon.com, (see our “Heads Up!” page for specific directions). By the way, we did notice our 1-star Amazon review. Good thing we’re open to hearing all kinds of feedback. That said, we hope to garner more “5 stars” as opposed to “1 star” ratings. Barbara Mackoff’s Editorial Review definitely helps us in the preferred direction!

Anything But Quiet at the Book Signing Front
We’ve held 5 book signings, 1 in Hawaii and 4 in Missouri. Here’s the scoop on each event:
~ On Saturday, April 17th, the two Michelles - Michelle Beaulieu Pillen and Michelle Jones - spoke to about 20 to 30 people at Barnes and Noble in Kahala Mall. The audience gave a warm reception and bought every copy of "Goal Sisters" in the store! Stephanie Neely, Events Coordinator, was amazed! Special alohas to Jan's lunch bunch, Bart's work buddies, both Michelles' family and friends, and Lisa Gomes for playing her beautiful music!! You all made the first "Goal Sisters" signing a wonderful event.
~ On Thursday, April 22nd, Ann and six of the original Goal Sister group members welcomed over forty visitors to the Joplin, Missouri Hastings store event! Zimmer Radio Group's Lisa Peak broadcast live, where a great discussion ensued regarding the differences in how men and women support each other. Thanks again to Carl and his Hastings crew for helping us launch “Goal Sisters” in the Midwest!
~ On Saturday, April 24th, Ann had the chance to meet some future Sisters at Effie Jane’s! Goal Sister group members Cindy and Nelda joined Ann in welcoming other women into the comfortable living room setting. Another group member, Karen, couldn’t make the event but her mom stopped by. Tanya, the storeowner, took good care of us! Lisa Peak broadcast 'live from the couch' and shared MAGIC mugs with everyone who stopped by! Thank you, Tanya and Lisa for your support!
~ On Friday, April 30th, Renée Hunt of Barnes and Noble in Springfield, Missouri hosted Ann at an event that included goodies from the café and wonderful signage. Two Goal Sister group members, Karen and Nelda, accompanied Ann and shared their treasure collages (see Exercise 9.3 in the book). The threesome sold 14 books! At the end of the evening, Renee had Ann sign EVERY remaining book in the store and displayed some of them on the Mother's Day gift table! Thanks much, Renee!
~ On Sunday, May 1st, Ann had an event at Suzanne's Natural Foods in Joplin, Missouri. It was another example of women grasping, and getting excited by, the Goal Sisters process! One hundred fifty women came through the store and most found their way to Ann’s table. She sold 20 books and 14 women put their names in a hat to receive information about the new Goal Sisters group!!

Book ‘Em, Danno!
We’re pretty sure that Steve McGarrett wasn’t talking about all the radio shows that Peg Booth and her crew at Booth Media Group have booked us. As of May 5th, we’ve been guests on five radio shows. Michelle called in to her first radio station in Colorado Springs on Friday, April 30th, and was on her first national radio show with Scott Cluthe of the Wisdom Radio Network on May 4th. Scott asked great questions and really “gets” Goal Sisters!! Ann’s first national radio show was on Tuesday, May 4th, when she chatted with Richard Brendan on Indianapolis’ WICR 88.7FM NPR station. This show was taped and will air on Thursday, May 6th. See the “Heads Up” page of our site for more details.

Special Thanks to Our Missouri Media Divas
~ We’re grateful for the support of Lee Radcliff and “Show Me the Ozarks” magazine! As the publisher and editor, Lee has made a commitment to the 4-state area to keep residents informed of area events and interesting people. Writer Linda Ward interviewed us for a feature story about Goal Sisters for the May issue. Thank you, Lee, Linda, and Wendy Masson, the magazine’s tireless office manager! You're all terrific!
~ Audiences love the Friday lunch hour discussions on goal setting with Ann and our Honorary Goal Sister MAGIC 93.9's Lisa Peak! Lisa’s enthusiasm and professionalism are contagious! Occasionally you'll hear Ann across the hall on KIX 102.5 with another Honorary Sister, Cody Carlson. We thank both of these women for sharing the Goal Sister vision and supporting their listeners in having the lives they want!

We continue to be amazed and inspired by the support of our Goal Sister group members – Cindy, Deborah, Joy, Karen, Michelle, and Nelda. It’s been great to meet your moms and other people who support you in your lives! We love watching you talk about your group experiences and your individual goal achievements, and we’re proud to stand alongside you on this wonderful journey.
Onward and upward,
Ann and Michelle

Better Homes and Gardens
February 2009
Ann and the GS book were featured in the article "Train Your Heart," by Chrystle Fiedler. Here's the excerpt:
Work Out with a Buddy. Enlist a friend who "gently nudges you in the direction you want to go," says Ann Leach, author of Goal Sisters: Live the Life You Want With a Little Help From Your Friends. Together, you set personal exercise and diet goals for the week and check in with each other to see how you're doing.
Thanks to Diana West for alerting Ann to the mention!

The Maui/Hawaii Writers Conference was where aspiring writers went to pitch their ideas into best-seller stardom. It was always more about selling your writing than about writing itself. After all, nobody is going to pay to learn how to be a starving but brilliant artist. (I attended in 1998. I learned a lot. I didn't sell anything, but I didn't really have anything to sell.) A 10-day stay through both the conference and retreat could cost several thousand dollars, and in a bad economy, no one has money to spend on dreams.
When the event was moved from high-priced Wailea to more affordable Waikiki, it was spun as a way to reach out to more writers. A few years ago, the operation morphed into a nonprofit, and publicity stressed the educational and literacy mission of the event, though it was still mostly for people with money to pay for time slots with book agents.
Singer Norah Jones is in line to serve as a scapegoat. A fundraiser concert for HWF featuring Jones was canceled last August for lack of ticket sales. Jones' contract provided for her to keep a $50,000 deposit if the show were canceled. Tullius told ticket holders he tried unsuccessfully to get the money back and had taken a big hit when the fundraiser didn't happen.
"We have been paying our bills for the last 17 years, and we have every intention of paying back each and every person who bought tickets," he said last year.
This year, well, that's another story.
